Fortnite Calls Forth the MMPR

The new Fortnite season starts on August 7, and there’s a big addition. The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers are being added into the item shop, and a Megazord and the Green Ranger will be unlockable through the battle pass.

Why This Matters: Halo had already been announced as having a skin in the battle pass, so the Power Rangers were not expected to come out at the same time. 

My Take: I played Fortnite years ago and didn’t see the appeal. And then Sabrina Carpenter came to the game. I bought her and have been dropping in very regularly since, just because of the joy I feel killing people as Sabrina. Now the Power Rangers are coming and that’s just more of the money I don’t have that Fortnite will be taking from me.

Phasmophobia Adds New Map

The next map to be released will be a small one: Nell’s Diner. A retro diner that’s sized along the lines of the houses in the game. 

Why This Matters: Adding another small map helps keep the game fresh. Another map, the Grafton Farmhouse, is being revamped to make it even spookier. 

My Take: Adding another small map is one of the best moves they could have made, and the diner looks amazing. The medium maps aren’t bad, but the large maps are too large to be fun, so this adds variety to keep the game exciting.

Guilty Gear Strive Gets Cyberpunk Character

Lucy from Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is coming to the fighting game on August 21. Her character comes complete with her signature monowire.

Why This Matters: Edgerunners staying in people’s minds just keeps the hype for its second season. The art design and her monowire keep her recognizable in the game.

My Take: Any way to get more Lucy is the correct thing to do. I’ve never played Guilty Gear, but I’m ready to go find the game now to prepare for her arrival.

Quick Bites

Just a few quick hits I want to blow through:

• Battlefield 6 is staying serious and avoiding the trend of character skins that don’t make sense in war. I’m glad, because so many games seem to be losing the edge that made them stand out by catering to silly partnerships.
• The Sims 5 is further away than you think. The excuse of there being too much DLC to move on is flimsy—have they ever seen how many cases a Sims 2 collection is?
• There is an alleged leak about the PS6. I do not want this yet. The PS5 feels like it’s barely hitting its stride, and the supposed launch timeframe is entirely too soon.
