It’s the week leading up to SummerSlam, and spoiler alert: my top spots are all from SmackDown. I truly think Raw was the weaker show this week, and the opening segment seemed to drag on.
Before we get in, just a few headlines:
- WWE Speed might be over? It was a fun idea and I enjoyed some matches, but I could neve remember to watch them on time. It’s a shame, though, because I love seeing Sol with the Speed title.
- Dominik Mysterio is so over in Mexico he’s being considered for a push for the top AAA title. I need to see that happen.
- WWE: Unreal dropped on Netflix. I haven’t had time to watch yet, but all of the clips I’ve seen online look great. I’m very excited and hope they make another batch of episodes.
Now let’s get into the week:
One Match
Giulia vs. Zelina Vega was incredible and deserved to be on SummerSlam. They delivered a far better match than when Giulia won the title.
I was waiting for Kiana James to interfere, and I’m glad she didn’t. It’s just a shame how many commercials I had to watch during the championship match.
One Moment
Mr. Iguana made his way onto the main roster shows.
And he arrived with the entire crowd behind him. The AAA acquisition has been amazing for WWE. Superstars have been able to flex their muscles in Mexico, and now the AAA tag titles were defended on SmackDown. What a huge moment, and now the WWE has a new star that the fans instantly loved in Mr. Iguana.
One Promo
I’m hesitant to use this moment, because I genuinely don’t know if it’s genuine.
John Cena said he’s over his surprise heel run, and he doesn’t want to be associated with The Rock and Travis Scott. The moment was big, but it’s over.
But was he just saying that so Cody wouldn’t expect the partnerships to continue on Sunday?
Honorable Mentions
- Rhea, Iyo, Stephanie and Nikki vs. Naomi, Chelsea, Piper and Alba was a lot of fun to watch, but it was never believable that Our President and the Secret Hervice could beat The Avengers, even with the help of the Women’s World Champion. But wow, what a beautiful sight seeing the winners celebrating together.
- I never want Paul Heyman and Jey Uso to open a show together again. That Raw segment was awful and didn’t even directly lead into Jey’s match. What a waste of a start.
- Bronson Reed is an absolute menace for stealing Roman’s shoes.
- Blake Monroe needs a title shot ASAP. Pull the trigger, Shawn.
